WARNING:

Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Avoid area near steering wheel and instrument panel even if air bags have deployed. Dual-stage air bag modules may be present that could contain an undeployed stage. When disposing of a deployed dual-stage air bag, always treat it as a live module. Replace after Deployment Inspect & if Damaged, Replace Component (Even if Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
  • Before doing any SRS repairs after a collision, check the deployed history and check for DTCs with a diagnostic scanner to determine the components that need replacement.

  • SRS control unit 1,2,3,4

  • Front seat belt(s) 1,2,3,4

  • Front impact sensor(s) 1,4

  • Rear left and right seat belts ,1,2,3,4

  • Deployed front airbag(s) 1

  • Cable reel (following driver-side air bag module deployment)

  • Dashboard (passenger’s air bag deployed)

  • Spring (if drivers airbag deployed)

  • Front passengers airbag bracket (if front passenger’s airbag deployed)

  • Passenger’s seat rail/passenger weight sensors as am assembly 2,3

  • Deployed knee air bag(s) 4

  • Deployed side air bag(s) 2

  • Side impact sensor(s) 2,3

  • Side impact pressure sensor(s) 2,3

  • Seat frame and related parts 2

  • Deployed side curtain air bag(s) 3

  • A-pillar trim 3

  • B-pillar trim, lower 2

  • B-pillar trim, upper 3

  • Quarter pillar trim 3

  • All grab handles 3

  • All related trim clips 3

  • Sun visor 3

  • Headliner 3

  • Driver dashboard lower cover (deployed driver’s knee airbag)

  • Glove box (if front passengers knee airbag deployed)

  • Passenger dashboard undercover (if front passengers knee airbag deployed)

  • When replacing the front seat belt tensioner, check the front seat belt mounting portion for deformation. If any deformation is found, repair it as needed.

  • After a moderate to severe side or rear collision, inspect for any damage on the side curtain airbag or other related components. Replace the pillar trims and related clips as needed.

  • Inspect all the SRS wire harnesses. Replace, do not repair, any damaged harnesses, connectors or terminals.

  • Inspect the cable reel for heat damage. If there is any damage, replace the cable reel.

  • Manufacturer may consider some fasteners and attachments non-reusable. Refer to manufacturer’s service repair manual or appropriate Air Bag Service & Repair article in Mitchell’s Repair Center TechAdvisor product for more information.

  • If any components are damaged, they must be replaced.

  • DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs. If SRS wiring or harness connectors are faulty, replace faulty wiring harness.

  • After the vehicle is completely repaired, turn the vehicle to the ON mode. If the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off, the SRS is OK. If the indicator does not function properly, use a diagnostic scanner to check for the DTCs. If you cannot retrieve a code, do the SRS Symptom Troubleshooting.
