Write an Estimate for a Medium-Duty/Heavy-Duty Truck

Use the MD/HD Truck database to write repair estimates for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks.

Truck estimating functionality is very similar to other Mitchell Estimating databases. If you've used Mitchell automobile estimating, you're already familiar with the steps to create an estimate, including how parts are selected.

In addition to writing a vehicle-specific estimate for a truck, you can also write an estimate for a truck component, such as a fifth wheel, engine, or drive shaft.

How to

This example shows how to write an estimate for a heavy-duty truck.

  1. Open the claim that requires an estimate for a heavy-duty/medium-duty truck.
  2. On the Vehicle tab, under Select Method, click Assisted.
  3. In the Type list, select Heavy Duty Truck.
  4. Continue selecting the Year, Make, and Model, and so on.
  5. Click the Repair tab.
  6. Add repair lines as needed. In this example, we remove and replace the grille.

  7. In the CEG list, select Grille.

    Note: Depending on the year, make, and model of the truck, a grille may not be available in the part list.

  8. In the part list in the center of the window, double-click Grille Assy.

  9. On the Part Detail dialog box, with the part highlighted, click Select to add the part to the estimate.

    Note: The MD/HD truck part database does not include prices.

  10. Click the Price field, and enter the part price.
  11. Calculate and save the estimate.

This example shows how to write an estimate for a fifth wheel on a heavy-duty truck.

  1. Open the claim that requires an estimate for a heavy-duty/medium-duty truck component.
  2. On the Vehicle tab, in the Method/Reason list, select Assisted with VIN.
  3. In the Type list, select the truck type. In this example, select Heavy Duty Truck.
  4. Select the vehicle Year.
  5. For Make, and Model, select Fifth Wheel.
  6. Complete required fields and any other necessary information.
  7. , click Write Estimate.
  8. In the CEG list, select Fifth Wheel.

  9. On the Part Detail dialog box, with the part highlighted, click Select to add the part to the estimate.

    Note: The MD/HD truck part database does not include prices.

  10. Click the Price field, and enter the part price.

    Tip: The Reference Sheet and Long Expansions lists are also available for adding estimate lines on a component estimate.

  11. Calculate and save the estimate.
