Use the Motorcycle Vehicle database to write a repair estimate for a motorcycle.
The Motorcycle Vehicle database offers CEG information for the most popular motorcycle configurations. A Generic Service is also included so you can create a repair estimate for any make and model.
The Motorcycle Vehicle database is a value-added option. To purchase and activate the option, contact your Mitchell representative.
How to
Write a motorcycle estimate just as you would an automobile estimate. When you identify the motorcycle, the system automatically displays the motorcycle database in the repair lines.
The following procedure provides an overview for creating a motorcycle estimate.
- Start a new estimate.
- Enter the necessary Administrative Information for the estimate.
If your company uses the claim number as the estimate ID, the Claim Number field on the General tab must be completed.
- Click the Vehicle tab, enter the VIN, and click Decode.
- If the VIN is not available, select the VIN Unavailable check box, and select one of the reasons from the list.
- Click the Repair tab. Mitchell Estimating reads the vehicle data from the Collision Estimating Database for motorcycles and displays the information in the Parts List.
- Add parts, calculate
, and save
the estimate.Note: If the VIN cannot be decoded completely, you will receive partial vehicle information and be prompted to use the Generic Vehicle selection method. Click the Generic Vehicle option, and select or enter the requested information.
- Scroll down the Parts List and find the part you wish to add to the estimate; for example, Handlebars.
- Double-click the red folder for that item. The list expands.
- In the nested list, double-click the green folder that applies to the estimate; for example, 883, 122 Roadster Model. The image of the part and its components appears in the Image Window.
- Under the green folder, double-click the part you wish to add to the estimate; for example, Handlebars. The Part Detail window for the that part appears.
- Click Select. The repair line appears in the Output Window.
Note: The repair line has an error condition because the price is not available.
- In the Price field, enter the price for the part. An asterisk appears after the price to show that the price is the estimator’s judgment.
- On the Parts List, select the remaining parts that apply to this estimate.
- When you complete the estimate, calculate and save it.
