Use the Marine database and calculators to calculate labor and materials cost for repair and refinish operations on marine vessels.
The Marine database and calculators are a value-added option. To purchase and activate the option, contact your Mitchell representative.
Use the Hull Repair calculator to select a combination of values that calculate the labor costs for hull repairs.
Hull Repair calculator repair lines have a Labor Type of B (body), a Labor Operation of RP (repair), and a Part Type of EX (existing).
An Explanation Line is added for each hull repair line created in the calculator. The Explanation Line describes the selected material and repair area length. Manually entered Labor Units are marked with an asterisk to indicate a judgment item.
Use the Refinish Calculator to select a combination of values that calculate the labor hours for a marine refinish operation.
Refinish calculator repair lines have a Labor Operation of RO (refinish only).
An Explanation Line is added for each refinish line created in the calculator.
Manually entered Labor Units are marked with an asterisk to indicate a judgment item.
Use the Decals Calculator to select a combination of values that calculate the labor hours for replacing striping and decals on marine vessels.
Decal calculator repair lines have a Labor Type of B (body), a Labor Operation of RR (remove/replace), and a Part Type of NW (new).
Explanation Lines are added when the Quantity is greater than one or if Messages are entered.
The calculator information used to create repair lines is saved when the lines are added to the estimate. When you access the calculator for a calculator-generated repair line, your original entries appear in the fields.
Note: If you modify the Labor Operation, Price, or Labor Unit fields after a line is added, the calculator information for that line is deleted. The repair line remains, but any related explanation lines are deleted, and calculator functionality is no longer associated with it.
How to
- On the Repair tab, do one of the following:
- To add a line, on the CEG parts list, right-click a part that is eligible for hull repair, click View Detail, and then click Select or Repair/Other. If the selected part is eligible for an automatic calculation, the Hull Repair Calculator appears with default values. (Previous Boat Type and Catamaran selections appear.)
- To modify a line that was added using the calculator, click and tab out of the existing Labor Operation field. Be sure that you don't change the Labor Operation because it will delete your previously entered calculator data. The Hull Repair Calculator appears with the data entered to create the repair line.
- Select a Boat Type. Select the Catamaran check box if applicable.
- Select a Damage Type option: Minor or Major.
- Select a refinish option: Hull Repair, or Manual Repair.
- If you selected Hull Repair, do the following:
- Click the Material arrow, and select a material type from the list.
- Enter values for Length and Height (of the repair area in inches), and then tab or click out of the fields.
The Labor Unit and Subtotal fields are calculated and entered by the Calculator.
Note:You can modify the Labor Unit field if necessary. On the repair line, the field appears with an asterisk to indicate that it was modified from the system information.
- If you selected Manual Repair, do the following:
- Enter any alphanumeric text you wish.
- Enter values for Length and Height (of the repair area in inches), and Labor Unit, and then click out of the field.
The Subtotal field is calculated and entered by the Calculator.
- Click OK to add the repair line to the estimate and close the calculator. An Explanation Line showing the selected material and repair area length is also added.
- On the Repair tab, do one of the following:
- To add a line, on the CEG parts list, right-click a Refinish Headnote, click View Detail, and then click Select. If the selected part is eligible for an automatic calculation, the Refinish Calculator appears with default values. (Previous Boat Type and Catamaran selections appear.)
- To modify a line that was added using the calculator, click and tab out of the existing Labor Operation field. Be sure that you don't change the Labor Operation because it will delete your previously entered calculator data. The Refinish Calculator appears with the data entered to create the repair line
- Select a Boat Type. Select the Catamaran check box if applicable.
- Select Type of Finish, # of Plain Colors, and/or # of Flake Colors.
- Select a refinish option: Automatic Area Refinish, Automatic Panel Refinish, or Manual Refinish.
- If you selected Automatic Area Refinish, do the following:
- Enter a Description.
- Enter values for Length and Height (of the refinish area in inches), and then tab or click out of the fields.
The Labor Unit and Subtotal fields are calculated and entered by the Calculator.
Note: You can modify the Labor Unit field if necessary. On the repair line, the field appears with an asterisk to indicate that it was modified from the system information.
- If you selected Automatic Panel Refinish, do the following:
- Enter a Description, and select a Panel.
- Enter values for Length (of the refinish area in feet), and then tab or click out of the field.
The Labor Unit and Subtotal fields are calculated and entered by the Calculator.
Note: You can modify the Labor Unit field if necessary. On the repair line, the field appears with an asterisk to indicate that it was modified from the system information.
- If you selected Manual Refinish, do the following:
The Subtotal field is calculated and entered by the Calculator.
- To add refinish information for another color, click Add Color. The current information appears in the table below the fields, and the fields are cleared.
Note: Once added, lines cannot be modified or deleted.
- Repeat steps 7a and 7b until you have entered information for all the colors in the refinish area.
- Click OK to add the repair line to the estimate and close the calculator.
- On the Repair tab, do one of the following:
- To add a line, on the CEG parts list, open the Stripes & Decals folder, right-click a decal part, click View Detail, and then click Select. If the selected part is eligible for an automatic calculation, the Decals Calculator appears with default values.
- To modify a line that was added using the calculator, click and tab out of the existing Labor Operation field. Be sure that you don't change the Labor Operation because it will delete your previously entered calculator data. The Decals Calculator appears with the data entered to create the repair line.
- If applying OEM decals, do the following:
- In Material, select OEM Decal, and then enter a Quantity.
- Enter values for Length, Height, and Cost, and then click or tab out of the fields.
The Labor Unit and Subtotal fields are calculated and entered by the Calculator.
- If applying Custom decals, do the following:
- Select the Lettering Same Height check box if appropriate.
- Select a Material, enter values for Quantity, number of Colors, Length, and Height, and then click out of the fields.
The Cost, Labor Unit, and Subtotal fields are entered by the Calculator.
- If the custom decals have text, in the Text section, do the following:
- Select a Lettering Type and Font Size, and then enter a value for Height.
- In the Message field, type the custom decal text.
- If the custom decal requires Specialty Work, do the following:
- Enter a Custom Layout Cost.
- If needed, select the Digital Printing Percent Multiplier check box, and select a percentage.
- If needed, select the Doming (#-D) Percent Multiplier check box, and select a percentage.
- Click OK to add the repair line to the estimate and close the calculator.

Select this check box to enable the doming percent multiplier. Then select a value for the cost of doming. (The default is 100.) The check box is not selected by default. Note: Doming is a step in the decal or lettering process that creates a raised effect. |
