Safety Recall Tab

Use Safety Recall Notices to provide additional customer service and resolve problems with the vehicle whether it is related to the estimate or not.

Safety Recall Notices are issued by automobile manufacturers when defects on their vehicles come to their attention. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) collects this data. Mitchell makes this data available to all Mitchell Estimating users in the estimate and from the Utilities menu.

When you open the estimate for a vehicle that has received a Safety Recall Notices, the notice automatically appears. The notice contains defect information, including the required repairs.

How to

This feature is available to all users at no cost.

The Safety Recall Notices option is active, and the Auto-Prompt check box on the Miscellaneous preferences tab is selected.

The Safety Recall tab appears on the Estimate task bar (in an inactive state until a recall match is found in the Safety Recall database).

  1. Activate the Safety Recall Notices value-added option.
  2. Be sure that the Safety Recall Notices Auto-Prompt check box is selected on the Miscellaneous preferences tab.
  3. Start a new estimate. Enter the Admin and Vehicle information.

  4. Click the Repair tab. The system automatically searches the Safety Recall Notices database for recall information related to the year, make, and model of the selected vehicle. If matching information is found, a Safety Recall Notice prompt appears.

  5. Click Print, or click Close to exit the dialog box and return to the estimate.
  6. Click OK. The Safety Recall Notice appears on the Safety Recall tab. The notice contains the following information: the NHTSA Campaign Number, Component Description, Defect Description, Defect Consequence, and the Corrective Action.
  7. To print the notice, click Print.
  8. To return to the estimate, click the Repair tab.

  9. To view the prompt after closing it, click the Safety Recall Notices toolbar button .

    Note: Once the Safety Recall notice has been viewed, the auto-prompt feature is inactive until the estimate is closed or another vehicle is selected. The auto-prompt feature is also inactive when opening an existing estimate. However, if recall information exists for the vehicle, the Safety Recall tab is active and when clicked displays the recall information.
