RMC (Refinish Materials Calculator)

Use the Refinish Materials Calculator (RMC) to calculate the refinish (paint) costs for the vehicle in the estimate.

The Refinish Materials Calculator combines average refinish times, average material costs, amounts of paint (based on a spray-able mixed quantity), and related materials. Material costs are taken from the following paint manufacturers: American Standox, Inc., Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc., BASF, ICI Autocolor, PPG, Sherwin-Williams, and Spies-Hecker.

Pricing is an average of materials cost from the suggested refinisher price lists (Cost). No adjustments are made to these averages. Compare this average pricing to the cost from the paint company representative, regional pricing, and specific job costing before applying a markup or discount.

Refinish materials costing is available for both imported and domestic vehicles.

How to

  1. Activate the RMC value-added option.
  2. Open the profile, and click the Calculations profile tab.
  3. In the Paint/Material Calculation Method list, click RMC.
  4. Select a Default Paint Type.

The first time RMC is started in an estimate, the following field values apply:

  • Two Tone Code defaults to the value on the Vehicle Data tab.
  • Paint Type defaults to the Default Paint Type selected on the Calculations profile tab.
  • Paint Code 1 and Paint Code 2 default to the value selected on the Vehicle Data tab.
  • Method fields appear as follows: If the estimate contains a clear coat line, the Method is Color & Clear; if the estimate contains a three stage line, the Method is 3 Stage; if the estimate contains only refinish, the Method is Color; if the estimate contains no refinish operations, the Method defaults to the value for the selected paint code.

Note: A message appears if these values have been modified from the values in the estimate or the recommendations from the paint manufacturer. The item is marked as a judgment item on the estimate and the RMC report.

  1. In an open estimate, click the RMC toolbar button.

  1. On the RMC dialog box, enter the Refinish Materials, Body Materials, and Total Materials information as applicable.

    Note: For detailed information about the RMC tabs, access the Help on the RMC dialog box.

  1. Click OK to add the total as a Paint/Materials refinish line. Additional refinish items are included in this line and calculated using RMC.

    Your entries are saved for each RMC session and are available the next time you access RMC from the estimate.

Reference
