Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) Calculator

Use the Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) Calculator to calculate the cost for paintless dent repair (PDR).

The PDR Calculator uses Dent Wizard methodology to calculate a dollar value for the paintless repair based on information you enter about dent size, location, and quantity.

The calculator information used to create repair lines is saved when the lines are added to the estimate. When you access the calculator for a calculator-generated repair line, your original entries appear in the fields.

Note: If you modify the Labor Operation, Price, or Labor Unit fields after a line is added, the calculator information for that line is deleted. The repair line remains, but any related explanation lines are deleted, and calculator functionality is no longer associated with it.

The PDR calculator is a value-added option. To purchase and activate the option, contact your Mitchell representative.

How to

  1. Activate the PDR value-added option.

  2. Open the profile, and on the Labor/Tax Rates profile tab, select the PDR Provider check box.

    Tip: Be sure to enter values for Labor Rates on the Labor/Tax Rates profile tab.

  3. Use this profile when writing an estimate that includes paintless dent repair.
  1. Configure the PDR calculator.
  2. On the System Info menu, click Preferences.
  3. Click the Options tab.
  4. Under PDR Labor Hours, select the Enable Estimated PDR Hours check box.

  2. On the System Info menu, click Preferences.
  3. Click the Miscellaneous tab.
  4. Under Misc, select the Generate PDR Explanation Lines check box.
  1. On the CEG parts list of an open estimate, do one of the following:
  • Right-click the part requiring paintless dent repair, click View Detail, and then click Repair/Other. On the Labor Operation dialog box, select Paintless Repair from the list, and then click the PDR button .
  • Select the part requiring paintless dent repair, and click the PDR labor operation button . On the Part Detail dialog box, select the appropriate part.

Note: If the PDR button doesn't appear for either of these two methods, confirm that the PDR value-added option is active, and that the PDR Provider check box is selected in the Profile.

  1. On the PDR Calculator, select the Quantity of each Dent Size (dime, nickel, quarter, and so on) that is to be repaired.
  2. Select the check boxes for any Additional Items.
  3. Click OK.
  • If you accessed the PDR Calculator through the Labor Operation dialog box, enter Labor Time as needed, and then click OK to close the PDR Calculator.

A sublet repair line is added to the estimate, with a Paintless Repair (PR) labor operation, and the price from the calculator.

  1. Select the existing Labor Operation, and tab out of the field. (Be sure that you don't change the Labor Operation because it will delete your previously entered calculator data.) The PDR Calculator appears with the data entered to create the repair line.
  2. Modify the Quantity of each Dent Size (dime, nickel, quarter, etc.) as needed.
  3. Select or clear the check boxes for any Additional Items as needed.

The PDR Totals field displays the calculated labor time for your selections. The PDR Calculator may determine that it is more cost effective to replace the part, rather than repair it. See How to change from a PDR (repair) operation to R&R on this Help page.

  1. Click OK to close the PDR Calculator.
  2. On the repair line, enter Labor Units if needed.
  • If multiple parts were selected, the process begins again with the next selected part.
  1. If the PDR calculator prompts you that an R&R operation is more cost effective compared to the PDR operation, click OK. The PDR Total field displays R&R.
  2. Click OK to accept the PDR Total of R&R. A repair line is added to the estimate, with a labor operation of R&R (Remove and Replace). All CEG values are restored for that line.

Reference

Dent Size

Select the number of dents in the following size categories, or enter a dollar value for larger dents.

  • Dime
  • Nickel
  • Quarter
  • Half-Dollar
  • Larger Dent

Quantity

The number of each of the dent sizes.

Additional Items

Additional relevant items, such as Aluminum Panel, Double Panel, and so on.

Totals

The total dollar value based on your selections
