OEM Procedures

When the Repair tab is selected, a pop-up dialog box displays to encourage use of the OEM Procedures tab (including templates and documents).

 

The OEM Procedures dialog box will display if all of the following conditions are met:

• The Display OEM Procedure Available Message preference setting is selected
• The decoded vehicle service has templates associated with it
• This is the first time the Repair tab has been selected after the Mitchell service code has been determined
• The estimate has no repair lines

The dialog box displays overlaid on the Repair tab, as shown below.

 

To control the display of the OEM Procedures dialog box, use the Display OEM Procedure Available Message setting on the Preferences window.

1. On the System Info window, click Preferences.
2. On the Preferences window, select the Options tab.
3. On the Options tab, select the Display OEM Procedure Available Message check box.

Follow the steps below to use the OEM Procedures tab to add OEM-recommended repair lines for major panels to an estimate.

1. On the Repair tab, click the OEM Procedures tab.
   
   

   

2. On the OEM Procedures tab, select the panel you want to repair from the "Flat Car" view (see diagram below).

   

   There are two levels of templates in the "Flat Car" view, the Outer Panel Template and the Inner Panel Template. This refers to the outer and inner panels of the vehicle.

   Navigation arrows below the "Flat Car" view allow you to switch back and forth between the Outer Panel Template and the Inner Panel Template.

   A window on the "Flat Car" view displays the Overview tab and the OE Documents tab. The OE Documents tab displays only if there is corresponding OE repair documentation.

   • The Overview tab contains basic information on how to use the templates. It also contains a link to more information about recommended procedures on Mitchell's website.
   • The OE Documents tab contains OE repair documentation. The same information appears for OE Documents when on the CEG tab.

   
   

    

3. Use the Outer Panel Template to select the panel that needs repair on the outer part of the vehicle.
   
   

   1. Use the arrows below the graphic to navigate to the Inner Panel Template.

    

4. From the Inner Panel Template, select the panel that needs repair on the inner part of the vehicle.
   
   
5. Select the repair operation by clicking one of the buttons to the right of the "Flat Car" view: R&R, Repair, Blend.
   
   Note: Some parts in a template may require that you select from a choice of parts specific to that model, year, trim package, etc.
   
   In the following example, the rear floor panel is selected and the R&R button is selected. (Often, the R&R button is the only available selection for the inner panels.)
   
   
6. On the Part Detail window, click on the appropriate part to select it, then click the OK button. Repeat as prompted for other parts.
   
   
7. When all the appropriate parts have been selected, the OEM-recommended repair lines are summarized on a separate window called the Template. For example, the screen below shows the HOOD Template.
   
   
8. On the Template window, review the OEM-recommended repair lines. By default, all repair lines are selected.
   
   The following example is the Rear Floor Panel Template.
   
   
9. On the template, clear the repair line check boxes you don't need for the repair.
10. Change the Price and Labor Units as needed.

Note: Changes to Price and Labor Units are considered user overrides. Changing a part price excludes the part from MAPP searches. Changing a labor unit excludes the repair line from P-page logic. This is existing functionality in Mitchell Estimating.

Tip: Click the Compare button to open the Part Compare dialog box and locate alternative parts (see Use the Compare Feature with OEM Procedures below). The Part Compare dialog box automatically displays when you add repair lines if the Show Compare Dialog at Part Selection check box is selected on the Miscellaneous Preferences tab (see Miscellaneous Preferences).

11. To add the selected repair lines to the estimate, click the Add Repair Lines button at the bottom of the Template window (see above).

    Note: The system adds the repair lines to the estimate and sorts them in standard estimate order (front to back, left to right).
    
    

    Once the repair lines are added to the estimate, purple text indicates that a repair line has corresponding OE repair documentation that you can access from the OE Documents tab in the estimate.
    
    

Use the Compare button on the Template window to open the Part Compare dialog box and locate alternate parts.

Note: The Compare button only displays if the Show Compare Dialog check box is not selected on the Miscellaneous Preferences tab (see Miscellaneous Preferences). If the Show Compare Dialog check box is selected as a preference, then the Part Compare dialog box displays automatically when you click the Add Repair Lines button.

1. Follow the procedures in the Add Repair Lines using the OEM Procedures Tab section, through step 10.
2. On the Template dialog box, review the OEM-recommended repair lines.
3. Select the row with the part you want to compare.

   Note: You can only compare parts listed as RR (Remove and Replace) in the Labor Op column. Parts that are not reference sheet items or parts without a part number also cannot be compared.

4. Click the Compare button (see above). The Part Compare dialog box appears.

   
   

5. Use the Part Compare dialog box to select the part you want to use for the repair. Click the OK button when complete.
6. Back on the Template window, clear the check boxes next to any repair lines you don't need for the repair.
   
   
7. Change the Price and Labor Units as needed.
8. To add the remaining repair lines to the estimate, click the Add Repair Lines button on the Template window.
