Create/Modify Estimate Settings (Profiles)

Use a profile as a template for settings used when calculating the estimate total. A profile can also include markup and discount percentages, as well as customized messages and disclaimers.

Labor/Tax Rates, Calculations, Adjustment/Long Exp., Tax Settings, Messages, Alternate Parts, Valuation, and Rules.

Important: When you set up Mitchell Estimating, create the profile first. Then, set up your user groups and user IDs. If you want, you can also set a default profile for an insurance company.

How to

  • On the System Info menu, click System Profiles.
  1. On the System Info menu, click System Profiles.

  2. On the System Profiles dialog box, click New.

  3. In the New System Profile dialog box, enter a unique New Profile Name, and click OK.

  4. On the Profiles window, enter information in each tab as needed.

  5. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Yes at the prompt to save changes.

Copy an existing profile to quickly create a profile. Pick an existing profile that has as much common content as possible, and then modify what's different.

  1. On the System Info menu, click System Profiles.

  2. On the System Profiles dialog box, select the profile you want to copy, and click Copy.

  3. On the Copy System Profile dialog box, enter a unique New Profile Name, and click OK.

  4. On the Profiles window, enter information in each tab as needed.

    Tip: To avoid creating different profiles with the same description, be sure to change the Profile Description on the Labor/Tax Rates tab.

  5. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Yes at the prompt to save changes.

  3. On the Profiles window, modify information in the profile tabs as needed.
  4. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Yes at the prompt to save changes.

Warning: A profile set as a default in an authorization group cannot be deleted.

  1. On the System Info menu, click System Profiles.

  2. On the System Profiles dialog box, select the profile you want to delete, and click Delete.

  3. Click OK at the prompt to delete the profile.

  2. On the Labor/Tax Rates tab, select the profile you want to use from the Copy a System Profile list.

Reference

  • A system profile is any profile you create when all estimates are closed. You can create as many profiles as you need. Estimators can choose from these profiles for their estimates, or you can set Rules to automatically select a default profile for new estimates.
  • You can set a default profile for an insurance company you do business with. When you create an estimate for that insurance company, the profile is automatically used.
  • You can assign a specific system profile as the default for each authorization group. When a user in a particular authorization group creates an estimate, the group’s default profile is automatically used.

  • You can create, copy, modify, and delete profiles.

    Note: You can't delete the Mitchell profile.

  • You can import and export profiles.
  • The profile name prints on the estimate so you know which rates, calculations, and settings were used to prepare the estimate. You can also print the profile as part of the estimate or as a separate Profile report.
  • The Mitchell profile is loaded during product installation. It can be modified but not deleted. Use this as a template to create additional profiles.
  • When you create an estimate, the default system profile is used. A copy of that system profile becomes the “estimate” profile.
  • You can customize the estimate profile without changing the corresponding system profile. The names of customized profiles appear on the estimate report with an asterisk to indicate that they were modified from their original settings.
  • Changes to system profiles are not applied to existing estimates using that profile.
